Michael Baker provided award winning, planning and engineering services to improve the safety of the bicycle and pedestrian networks on CDOT Region 4 and 1 roadways. These studies evaluated crash and systemic data on all CDOT roads within the respective regions and considered public input from thousands of survey participants to identify a list of top priority locations. Based on a review of all available crash data, traffic volumes, field evaluations and public input, innovative safety countermeasures were identified. For each of these top priority locations, conceptual designs, planning level cost estimates and benefit to cost ratios were completed to support future safety grant applications that would fund the identified improvements. The Region 4 project was awarded WTS’s Innovative Transportation Solution of the Year. Additionally, Michael Baker is now supporting CDOT with implementation of improvements for some of the top priority locations in both regions, and Hg Consult is providing design support for the Region 1 projects. Designs are currently in progress, with construction anticipated to start in 2027.
